7th grade--Today's Quick Write prompt: Wash your hands! Clean your room! Take a shower! Why are so many adults worried about cleanliness? We had quite a few interesting responses, including "to keep us from getting sick" and "because they like to boss kids around." Hmmm...

We also focused our instruction on prepositions--one of the parts of speech in the English language. We used my buddy the frog and his log to demonstrate place prepositions. The frog was on the log, under the log, around the log, and even through the log!

For Writer's Workshop, students resumed their work generating ideas for their first work of 2nd quarter. Some students have decided on their genre and have begun drafting!

8th grade--Today we focused all of our attention on BALLADS. We read "The Ballad of the Triangle Fire" (:c( and watched video versions of "Cats in the Cradle," "The Ballad of the Green Berets," and "On Top of Spaghetti"--ballads one and all.
