Today all students continued their study of the new unit 4 vocabulary words. During these mini-lessons we spell the words, identify parts of speech, identify synonyms and define the words. Finally, we brainstorm examples of these words and create small graphics to help us cement the usage in our minds.
Students usually come up with some creative ideas and often think of other words in the same "families" of words. It seems to work, and I actually enjoy our word work days very much.
I also finalized the 2nd quarter portfolio contents today:
7th grade--Book Talk, Free Choice Piece, Gift Poem, 2 Stellar RRJ entries from 2nd quarter.
8th grade--Book Talk, Compare/Contrast Piece, Ballad, Ode, Writing Prompt.
Portfolio due date for all classes--Tuesday, December 15.
