Totally Terrific Tuesday

Today we continued working with our Unit 2 spelling and vocabulary words. Students determined synonyms and antonyms for each word in their list. We have a test over Unit 2 on Friday, which will include spelling, fill-in-the-blank, synonyms and antonyms, and analogies. We have spent three weeks with these words, but students still need to take some responsibility for reviewing for the test.

The following website
http://www.sadlier-oxford.com/vocabulary/index.cfm contains all sorts of helpful exercises to help students learn their words. Students can download the word lists and listen to an audio recording about the words. They can also play online games from the Sadlier-Oxford website.

Students, once you are on the website home page, click on Student. Then you must choose your textbook level--7th grade A and 8th grade B. After that you need to remember your unit number. We are currently studying unit 2, although we will be refreshing our memories on past units throughout the year.

After Word Work, students discovered Circular Design Conclusions. We viewed an example of a memoir with an effective lead which led to a circular design conclusion. Students will work extensively during Writer's Workshop tomorrow, finalizing the "parts and pieces" to their memoir draft.

Don't forget: One beefy RRJ entry due Friday--Determining Important Ideas OR Visualizing.
